Funny and interesting 'beach book'

Stressed out lawyer Samantha Sweeting can't even take time away from her cell phone and blackberry to enjoy the spa gift certificate she received from her best friend for her birthday last year.

Samantha comes from a family of high achievers. She is relieved to find that her work meeting is going to let out at a reasonable time, allowing her to actually meet up with her mother and brother for her birthday dinner at a fancy restaurant, only to find once she is already seated that both her mother and brother are caught up at their own stressful jobs and can not make it. There is a second brother who can not make it because he has had a nervous breakdown.

Samantha spends a lot of time convincing herself that the stress in her job is 'just a blip.' She is up for partner. In fact, she is just about to hear whether she makes partner when something happens that causes her to get on the first train she sees, and knock on the first door she sees when she gets off the train.

Miscommunications and hilarity ensue.

Reasons I gave 4 stars:
The book is funny and interesting. The characters were likable. I've actually read it more than once :) As far as what I categorize as a 'beach book' goes, it was better written than many.

Reasons I did not give 5 stars:
There was a section toward the end where it felt like it just kept going on longer than it needed to.

It was a fun, light-hearted summer read

It was a fun, light-hearted summer read. I loved the main idea of a woman walking away from a huge, stressful career and reinventing herself...or allowing herself to be reinvented. I liked getting to know the characters and would have enjoyed more of their backstory. The end was a bit too predictable and easily tied everything up, so I felt a little letdown there, but overall it was just a nice little summer vacation from reality.

HILARIOUS BOOK

When reading book reviews I run across words like "unrealistic" and "far-fetched" a lot. This book is a work of FICTION, created by the mind of the author. It is meant to entertain, not to slap you in the face with realistic life. I enjoy a book that can remove me from real life and send me off on an adventure in a fantasy world! I am new to Kinsella's writing and after reading this book, I have plans to read a whole lot more of her work. I chuckled a lot and laughed out loud several times. I haven't run across many books that can do that no matter how humorous they're suppose to be.

The main character is a young, very ambitious attorney working 24/7, hoping to make partner any time now. So why should the challenge of being a housekeeper throw her into a tizzy? Well, in reality it probably wouldn't. But....this is fiction. In my opinion, this book was hilarious. Who but a high powered lawyer would think to try making hard boiled eggs in a microwave?!

It's ok

I have read several books by this author, but I have to say that this wasn't my favorite book of hers. It was a good read, but it just didn't grip me as much as some of her other books. The story was fine, and sounded great at first. I'm honestly not sure why I'm not more enthused about this book. Carla Cassidy is definitely a good author and the book is well written.

I enjoyed this book but could give it only four stars. Carla Cassidy has other books I have enjoyed more. Nothing against the author---she is a wonderful writer.

Get the Trilogy

This is the third story of the James family. Purchase first "Last Seen" about Breanna James, then "Dead Certain" Savannah James then "Trace Evidence" Clay James. Carla Cassidy has spell binding stories, these three were terrific. It was difficult to find the connection between all three books. Wish she had had a note at the end - continue reading about the James, get the next book and named it. I would recommend her books to anyone who enjoyed mysteries, suspense and murders.
