Nick Spalding is an author who, try as he might, can't seem to write anything serious. He's worked in the communications industry his entire life, mainly in media and marketing. Nick lives in the South of England with his fiancee. Jamie and Laura, Part Deux

I loved the continuation of the Jamie and Laura saga, almost as much as I did the first book (Love... From Both Sides). In this segment, Jamie and Laura are married and suddenly find themselves to be expectant parents, as well.

While the humor and writing remain solid, and the dialogue still flows well, there are a couple of predictable parts. It should be said that not only did this not detract from my enjoyment of the book at all, and at the end I couldn't wait to purchase the newest book in the series, but also that the story matured pretty well along with its characters. Maybe Jamie still makes a few dopey mistakes, and maybe Laura is a bit harsh (and occasionally makes her own dopey mistakes), but I love the way the relationship, marriage and pregnancy all progress. I also appreciated the new character introductions, brief though they might have been, because they added to the story in a true-to-life fashion, and added to the fun of the book. Personally, I felt that the author did a good job keeping the journal and blog entries true to the characters who wrote them.

I think that this author has a real talent and look forward to reading more work by him.

(There are still adult situations and adult language, so buyer beware if you don't appreciate that type of story.)

Still Really Funny

This is the second book in the series, and also the second best. It's still very often hilarious- especially their midwife, Jamie's impression of Laura's pregnancy, and their hospital stay. Unfortunately, the second half of the book chronicles the first year of their daughter's life, which is fraught with marital problems for the once happy couple. I'm sure this is the norm for relationships that are under the stress of parenting, but I don't want to know that! I want them to still be happy! Therefore, this book gets 4 stars- still funny, but too much sad for 5 stars.

Tamer than the first book in the series.

Love From Both Sides was very graphic and a little tasteless, but oh so funny. I approached Love and Sleepless Nights with trepidation. This book is a continuation of the main characters in Both Sides, but it is not nearly as raunchy. There is still some graphic sex albeit with humor. This book seems to have more of a plot and not just humorous incidents.
Spoiler: the infant illness was especially touching and I felt very true to life.
The series seems to be maturing along with the characters.

Good Book For beginners and experienced laboratorians

I have not finished this book yet but it has explained to me a few things I was unsure about. It is good practice for your diagnostic skills. I wish I would have had this book when I started out in my profession. I would recommend it for professionals in laboratory testing beginning and experienced to keep your skill level up. Another great book by Linda Graves!!!

good book but not ideal for certification format

this is overall a good book. but not ideal for certification exam because its essay type. but the topics are good and explanations are provided. i returned mine because i might not need it at this time. and please buy this on amazon merchants NOT ON AMAZON.com ITSELF because i bought mine on them and they charge me stocking fee when i returned it thats almost half the cost of the book. if I had known I would have bought on other merchants on amazon.this is the first time i bought one directly from amazon .

The ousted dictatorship overthrew Nasheed's government in February 2012, supported by Islamic radicals and mutinying security forces. Amid Byzantine intrigue, the fight for democracy was just beginning.

This is the definitive book about the Maldives. JJ Robinson has clearly documented a very readable and accurate account of key players and events in its recent history. I have lived and worked as an expat during these turbulent times and can attest to the authenticity of this sad and seedy side of A Paradise Lost. A must read.

Me Siento orgulloso de poder leer esto libro porque yo era Chico cuando murio Selena y todavia no conocia su musica y quien era en realidad pero gracias a mis padres pude escuchar un poco. Pero en realidad no preste mucha atencion a la persona que era hasta que vie la pelicula y por eso fue que quice leer este libro para conocerla mas y saber mas ahora sobre de Ella las historias son Lindas y me Siento triste por no poder verla cantar ahora PERO TODO MUNDO TIENE QUE LEER ESTE LIBRO

este libro habre una de las ultimas puertas cerradas hacia el corazon de Selena, explicando con detalles vivamente dolorosos aquellos sentimientos y momentos mas importantes para Selena, su familia y amado esposo. tengo que admitir que este libro cobro unas cuantas lagrimas de mi al pasar pagina por pagina desde ese vuelo de Mexico hasta esa tarde obsucra cuando el mundo se detuvo. recomiendo este libro a cualquiera que quiere saber un poco mas - solo un poco - hacerda de la gran Selena, que vive en la memoria de todos nosotros.

this book opens one of the last few closed doors towards Selena's heart, explaining in vivid and painful detail all those feelings that were so important for Selena, her family and beloved Husband. i must admist this book got a few tears out of my eyes as i read page by page the story from that flight from Mexico, to that obscure afternoon when the world suddenly stopped. i recommend this book to anyone who wishes to know a little - just a bit - more of the great Selena, who lives in the memory of us all.

I saw this news and I hollered out my happy thoughts and I shouted louder than the hubby did during a football play he was happy about.

While I am a very big fan of Claire's and have read a lot of her works, as a reviewer I have to be honest for our sake right? I will not play favorites as a reviewer. I give you my straightforward thoughts and allow you to go with it. So here we go...

Page one caught me and this story held me tight until I reached the end and when I got there, I wanted more. The opening scene we have a cowboy on stage showing off his fire whip demonstration. As mesmerizing as that probably is, the lead character of this story, Tyler Sutton a magazine reporter, has his mind on something else, or should I say someone else entirely. The object of his attention? Clint Darrow and he's the foreman of a cattle farm and a cowboy poet to boot! Clint had been on stage right before the fire whip demonstration and Tyler was lost in Clint's poems, especially because as we all know, poems can mean more than one thing and each person will decipher the meaning differently right? Well, Tyler sure did.

Tyler is a cowboy at heart his roots and his heart lay in Texas with his family and the farm they own. However, something drove Tyler away from all he loved to the big city of Austin. A place where he knew no one, and no one knew him and his dirty secrets. He started over by becoming a line editor for a magazine and eventually working his way up to a reporter. This is when we meet the young man. After just three months on the job he is promoted to reporter and is sent to cover the cowboy poetry and music festival taking place. He's both thrilled and let down at the idea of his first story. He expected nothing more than corny recitations by has-been or would-be cowboys and the same tired old country music standards offered in a nasal twang. Still, it was an opportunity to get his own byline and he had jumped at the chance to prove himself.

What he didn't expect to see was what he saw. And the man who caught his attention, Clint Darrow who is a Dom on a stick. This man had Tyler's whole body at attention and Tyler had to interview him. When Clint, a real cowboy with that southern hospitality, began talking, Tyler lost thought. So did I. They had a few beers and talked for a bit and Tyler did ask a few questions but then Clint turned things around and asked Tyler what he thought the poem he recited on stage meant. Tyler connected it with Dominance and submission, between a horse and master actually. This was the green light Clint needed. Shy? Nope, not Clint. He knows what he wants and he goes after it, and he wants Tyler. He sees something in Tyler that Tyler can't see. This is what most of the story is based on. That and getting the younger man to grasp his submissive side and be okay with wanting more than just a gentle romp in the hay.

Clint is a thirty-nine year old cowboy who knows who he is, and he knows what he wants. One night spent with the younger cowboy and he knew he had to have Tyler. Clint is a foreman at a ranch and has been for many years. He's good at what he does and he's respected for it, and his sexual orientation isn't a big deal to those he works with. He's done playing games and hopes to find that perfect guy to spend the rest of his life with. He's a Dom and he delivers exactly what Tyler needs. We find this out the first night they are together. It's a remarkable scene actually. Soon enough those men find themselves in the middle of a mystery. This gives them a reason to spend more than one night together. (YAY for us!) Someone is stealing containers of bull sperm off the farms in Texas and Clint and Tyler are set out to find the culprit. They do make one hell of a team both in and out of the bed.

Claire wrote an amazing m�nage scene in this story, and may I just say that she handles it with so much care that I didn't find myself jealous for any of the characters at any given point. There is just one m�nage scene so if it isn't your thing, just give it a chance. You won't be sorry.

This is about a man's quest to identify with who he really is and what he really wants and not be ashamed. Tyler is a man running from his past, himself, and from love all because he thinks something is sick wrong with him.

The focal point in many BDSM stories works on the humiliation of the slave/sub. In The Cowboy Poet you'll find that the characters have equal amounts of power within their relationship and it's a journey of love from the master to his sub and the sub to his master. This is a very strong plot driven story, the characters are amazing and so real that I'm pretty sure Ty and Clint live some place in Texas tending to their own herds of cattle and horses as partners.. The BDSM is handled with class and care and none of it is eye closing, OMG'ing, or anything of the sort. We even see a bit of C & BT going on.

Claire is class, and so are her characters. The hot Master/sub sex? Get a fan you'll need it. I love those alpha men! Clint is all alpha and when he gets in the mode? Oh my... I will say this: I was at work, on a break and reading one of the hot sex scenes and someone asked me if I was okay? I looked flushed. LOL! You bet I was!

Sexy Cowboys with BDSM Twist

Another hot story from the Mistress of m/m BDSM. I love the two guys in this, Clint with his heart of gold and the quiet, gruff exterior, and Tyler, so deliciously confused and aching for what he knows he shouldn't have...Hot sexy Texas cowboys, smokin' BDSM scenes, and the characters are beautifully realized and ring so true. Loved it!

Handled With Care

There is a difference between Claire Thompson and most of the other authors in this genre. She takes the time to create a history for her characters. We have a fuller view of them in general compared to others. Yes there is ample sex but there is enough story that it is not monotonous. This is a story that is based in having faith in yourself and accepting who you are. Well done Thompson!

A good starting point for Ancient Egyptian religion studies.

My only regret with this book was that it was far too short! However, it presented the Egyptian gods (or netjer, as the author refers to them) from a fresh, new perspective hitherto unseen in most texts pertaining to them (including most Wiccan "Egyptian" books). After so many years of poorly-researched books and manuals that used Budge or 70's romance novels as their references on the subject, it's good to see someone out there worth her salt putting effort into the matter (and amusing to see how many people imitate her pronunciations and use her definitions without giving her any credit whatsoever). This book touched me deeply, and has led me to question much of what I thought of the Egyptian belief system. For that alone, it is worth my praise. Now if she'd just write another one....

A great introduction for spiritual practice

This author has produced more updated material since The Neteru of Kemet was published, but this book is still a favorite in our household.

The book is formatted in vignettes that each include gentle visualizations which provide an excellent starting point for getting to know the Ancient Egyptian Gods on a personal level.

Readers who seek to begin a personal relationship with these Gods will find this book a helpful introduction.

Excellent Book to Start Learning About Kemet

I met Rev. Tamara Suida years ago and found her to be very knowledgable and well-qualified; you can trust the veracity of the information in this book. I have had this book since 1996 and have referred to it many times over the years. It is short but has translations of Kemetic poetry, the original names of the Kemetic deities as well as the later names (Aset is the original name of Isis, for example) and it has vignettes to meditate upon. There is also a useful bibliography and a handy glossary. It may be a short book but it is packed full of information; it is well worth the price. This book is a great introduction to the facts about ancient Kemetic (Egyptian) deities and history.

Not a good choice for educators

I'll admit - I did not read the companion book to this, because I felt that I was already sold on the theory behind "gamification" and was more interested in its practical applications. While I certainly didn't expect to be spoon-fed strategies just for the classroom, I bought this hoping it would give a general framework that could be applied in any instructional setting... Not too far off, you'd think, from the title and the blurbs that claim this book offers a step-by-step guide for "learning professionals." Unfortunately, this was misleading - the book appears to actually be aimed at those who want to literally design an educational video game rather than "gamify" an existing environment or content area. More generally, I felt that this book was in need of a good editor - there's a surprisingly high number of typos throughout (which, you know, small potatoes, but pretty unprofessional for a $50+ book), and the organization of chapters feels confusing and disordered. For instance, before the basic, universal practical components of gamification are even discussed (and they are, eventually, discussed), there's a lengthy chapter on the logistics of designing a video game that goes into detail about the various benefits of doing it in Flash or HTML 5, etc... I'm sure this information is useful to someone, but it felt completely out of place. Ultimately, I found myself disappointedly skimming and skipping huge chunks.

Essential principles by which to design, develop, and create interactive, high-impact learning experiences

In Chapters 1-12, the three co-editors - Karl Kapp, Lucas Blair, and Rich Mesch - offer brilliant explanations of (a) why it is so important to focus on gaming, (b) "Basic Elements," and (c) "Design Considerations" that must be addressed. This material also creates a context, a frame of reference, for what is then provided by eleven contributors in the chapters that follow. I was also very impressed by the quality of mini-case studies in Chapters 16-22. Essential principles of gamification are brought to life in real-world situations. With regard to definition of key terms, there are three: games, gamification, and simulation. The co-editors lump all three in a single term, "interactive learning event" or ILE.

Some of the most valuable material is provided by the contributors. Three address generic issues; the other eight focus on the aforementioned mini-case studies.

It is important to keep in mind that this is a fieldbook. The co-editors provide worksheets, examples, samples, tables, and instructions that can help readers create their own ILEs. "This book can be used as a primer or introductory text to introduce the topic of designing instructional games, gamification, and simulation, but it is primarily designed as a practical fieldbook to help teams in the midst of creating games, gamification, and simulation projects. It is the companion to the bestselling book The Gamification of Learning and Instruction: Game-Based Methods and Strategies for Training and Education."

I commend Kapp, Blair, and Mesch on their skillful use of reader-friendly devices that include "Chapter Questions" that serve as a head's up, "Questions to Ponder," "Ensuring Success," and "Key Takeaways" as well as 27 "Tables" and two "Exhibits." These devices will facilitate, indeed expedite frequent review of key material later. I always recommend highlighting of key passages (there are hundreds) and, especially with this book, keeping a notebook near at hand to record comments, questions, page references, and doodles.

Those who are thinking about or now preparing for a career in game design as well as those who have only recently embarked on one will find this book and its companion volume (i.e. The Gamification of Learning and Instruction: Game-Based Methods and Strategies for Training and Education) of incalculable value but I think there is a much more larger constituency to which I also recommend it highly: designers of self-directed learning curricula. Another constituency consists of those who are now developing programs based on MOOCs (i.e. massive open online courses). The success of all formal and informal education depends almost entirely on the nature and extent of a student's engagement. If there is a better approach than an ILE to achieve it, I would very much like to know about it.

Given the current state of public school education in the United States, there is so much that staff and faculty members can learn from this book. That said, I am deeply grateful to Karl Kapp, Lucas Blair, Rich Mesch, and their colleagues for what I have learned from them.

I must admit this was an expensive book. But when I read it, I couldn't put it down. This is exactly what I needed to get a clear understanding of what this fairly new gamification is all about. Nice job.
