Interesting take on the symbolism of human form.

Ok, so this book was a little bit different than his others. It centered more around the symbolic aspects of the human form and how we've come to use them, even unwittingly, in our everyday lives. For instance; have you ever wondered why Temples and Churches around the World have, since technology permitted, used the domed roof? It's representative of the human skull. We're all aware that ancient and modern Priests of various Faiths shave their heads; that nothing separates them from the Heavens. But the original reasoning behind this was the belief that the spirit (Soul) ascended through the dome of the skull during meditation and prayer. That is why a Temple whose sanctuary is often in the shape of the Cross, representing the human body, is capped with a dome (the skull.) So when we (the congregations collective soul) in the body of the Temple, pray and meditate we can ascend through the "skull" and be one with the Divine. That's the direction this book taking you. The Occult Masonry portion was barely touched upon, but strategically placed throughout the book, ending with it's own chapter. Pretty interesting. I was more than satisfied.

Insights into a money managers mind

Upfront disclosue: My money is currently with Martin Capital Management. There is a reason it is. if you read this book you will gain great insight into the mind of a thoughtful transparent investor. Don't just take my word for it. Jack C Bogle wrote the forward and outlines the book, its author, and intent of the book better than I. All I can say is I pay for these ideas and you have an insight into the markets for one hell of a deal. Even if you are a buy and hold investor or an index believer you will enjoy the history, the writing and perspective. It is written as the market was and currently is unfolding....so this is an insight into how a student of the market thinks under the gun....
anyone who is a stock market junkie and history buff will enjoy. It just might have you asking some questions about fees, funds, and others in the "game"

Means (mind-set) versus Ends (mind-set)

As a sequel to Speculative Contagion -- Decade of Delusions continues the quest to navigate the challenges of the investment world in finding value and protecting capital. Unlike the lay investor whose primary quest is the result, Frank Martin's quest is the means as opposed to the ends. The book, along with its brethren, once again has the preoccupation with the means of the value approach, not the end. This is vital as the knowledge in the field of finance is cyclical, not cumulative.

I will assume that the reader is cognizant of the value approach espoused by Graham & Dodd and will highlight a few of the other means `mind-set' items discussed. One is patience. In a world of instant gratification from smart phones to fast food, patience in the financial world is a somewhat lost art. In Chapter 7, the author explains, and quotes others, that in our generation what counts in life is `activity, agency, getting things done.' However, one needs patience as defined as 1) endurance (suffering without discontent),, 2) forbearance (bearing with the faults of others), 3) expectancy (willingness to wait), and 4) perseverance (constancy). With these attributes along with avoiding the herd, help one achieve above-average returns.

This is but a small, very small, taste of what the book entails. Probably more so, it is the financial history of our time where we veered off the realistic path. On just needs to be reminded of 100 times revenue companies (i.e. `dot.com') era, and dead dogs receiving mortgage applications. Nevertheless, one may not make money by reading the text, but one will surely be prepared in protecting their capital by reading Decade of Delusions.

This book is Frank Martin's actual stream of conscious in the form of actual client letters from both before and during the financial crisis. Thought provoking and sure to leave readers educated, Frank Martin's letters foretold of the speculative excesses that led to the financial crisis, guided his readers on how he and his firm protected client capital, and shines the light on the ramifications of current government intervention and their potential impact on the future. If one is interested in investing, this is a must have book. One of the most educational books on investing I have ever read.

About the Author
Karen Mundy is a Professor, Associate Dean of Research, and Canada Research Chair at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the University of Toronto, where she directs the Comparative, International and Development Education Centre (CIDEC). Her research has focuses on the global politics of “education for all” programs and policies, education reform in sub-Saharan Africa, the role of civil society in the reform of educational systems, and the policy influence of international organizations, such as the World Bank, UNESCO and the WTO. A former president of the Comparative International Education Society, Dr. Mundy has published five books and more than four dozen articles and book chapters, and is a contributor to dozens of policy papers and reports.

Andy Green is Professor of Comparative Social Science at UCL Institute of Education and Director of the ESRC Centre for Learning and Life Chances. A frequent consultant to international bodies, such as CEDEFOP, the European Commission, OECD and UNESCO, and to the UK government departments, Dr. Green has published eighteen books, including: Education, Globalization and the Nation State (1997); Regimes of Social Cohesion: Societies and the Crisis of Globalization (2014, with J.G. Janmaat) and Education and State Formation: Europe, East Asia and the USA (2013). He was elected an Academician of the UK Academy of Social Science in 2010.

Bob Lingard is a Professorial Research Fellow in the School of Education at the University of Queensland, Australia. A Fellow of the Australian Academy of Social Sciences and Editor of the journal Discourse: Studies in the Cultural Politics of Education, Dr. Lingard has published twenty books, including most recently Globalizing Educational Policy (2010) (with Fazal Rizvi), Politics, Policies and Pedagogies in Education: The Selected Works of Bob Lingard (2014) and Globalizing Educational Accountabilities (2015) (with Wayne Martino, Goli Rezai-Rashti and Sam Sellar). He has also published more than one hundred journal articles and book chapters in the sociology of education.

Antoni Verger is a Senior Researcher in the Department of Sociology at the Universitat Aut�noma de Barcelona. A former post-doctoral researcher at the Amsterdam Institute for Social Science Research of the University of Amsterdam, Dr. Verger research specializes on two main areas: the global governance of education and education privatization policies. He has published more than four dozen articles, book chapters and books on these themes, including WTO/GATS and the Global Politics of Higher Education (Routledge, 2010), and Global Education Policy and International Development: New Agendas, Issues and Programmes (Bloosmbury, 2012).

He played offensive tackle for the Steelers for 13 years, from 1980 to 1992, and reflecting his abilities as a leader, served as vice-president of the NFL Players Association from 1989 to 1994. In 1998, he joined the Steelers broadcasting team of Myron Cope and Bill Hillgrove, and after Cope's retirement, took on the color-commentary duties. For the "Faithful" Steelers fan (pun intended)

As a daily listener to "In the Locker Room with Tunch and Wolf," I especially enjoyed the anecdotal insights by Tunch Ilkin throughout the book. But beyond that, I thought the leadership principles outlined in the book were not only true, but useful in virtually any capacity of leadership in which one might find him/herself. Even before reading this book, I felt there was a deep sense of faith-commitment in the Steelers organization. After reading it, my feelings were confirmed. While I began loving the Steelers for their hard-nosed style of play, I continue to love them for much more of what goes on behind the scenes and what they stand for apart from football. So to all "Faithful" Steelers fans, get a hold of this book and give it a read. You'll be glad you did.

Solid Principles To Lead By

The book offers commentary to how the solid leadership principles have been and continue to be a part of an organization that prides itself on humility, teamwork and consistent performance. I have been in manufacturing for many years and have witnessed leaders from both sides of the spectrum. The leaders that embrace these principles and flow them down through their organizations have that contagious humility that make them great.

Solid leadership advice.

I found this book to be a very enjoyable read with some excellent advice on how to become a better leader at home, at work and in the community. At a time when so much attention is paid to sports stars and the organizations that they represent, it's encouraging to look at the success of the Pittsburgh Steelers, both on and off the field, and learn to apply some of their leadership principles in our own lives.
