First of its kind

I decided to purchase this item despite lack of information online about this product. I figured it was going to be a surprise. As the previous poster has said, this is a nice add-on to your studies and daily organization. However, it definitely isn't a must and I had a hard time deciding if I would keep it because the product is not as polished as one would expect. However, I like that it's a unique product. There are no other planners out there for MCAT study planning, at least not one that I know of that could specifically apply to the new MCAT.

I like the cover design and texture. It is like a rubber-coated/matte feel. The downside is that it smudges and wears easily, although it looks and feels nice. The first content page you see is a letter from Amareen. She goes on for about 6-7 pages with all her study tips, some of which I will be trying. Others seem very extreme or specific to her program and supplements she sells. For example, I doubt I will be following the diet advice or advice about brain supplements as they require you to purchase very specific products. She recommends eating Oatfit every 1.5 hours, and it sounds like she is recommending Oatfit to be the primary part of your diet. This whole section could have been clearer and proofread more before printing. Also, the font seems to be point 8 or smaller, and I can't figure out a rationale for this since the 7th page is only about 4 lines long.

Next, you get to the "Overview of the Daily Plan". This is basically a two column chart that goes to day 365, with a few extra days to spare since the second column is blank on the last page. I doubt I will use this part much since there is nothing particularly appealing or organizational about the way it is laid out and there is not much space to write your plan that day (if you can summarize your plan in 1-2 words, 3 if you write small and the words aren't long, but they often tend to be in the sciences). You can just print out some free monthly calendars if you are really inclined to write out your plans for the next 365 days, but I would recommend just planning month by month :)

Then you get to the bulk of this planner, which are the daily sheets starting from 5am and ending at 4am. Flip this over and you will see the end of day review, where you can record hours studied, test percentages, stress, motivation, and distraction levels and a spot to write general notes and revisions to the plan. It's kind of a shame that these two pages aren't facing each other. I might just skip the first schedule sheet so that I can have the end of the day sheet on the left and use the facing schedule sheet (meant for the next day) on the right. I like the daily review sheets and there's a lot of them in there that they don't feel scarce, like informal worksheets you can freely write on should feel.

Amareen ends with 100 quotes for bad days. This leads me to another suggestion, which is a quote or tip every day. Because there is already one quote repeated everyday on the daily pages (which also seems to need copy editing). Along with this theme of repetition, the header of the book lets you fill in your test date and goal score, which is a nice touch, but I doubt I'll be filling that in 756 times on every page of the book!

All-in-all, 3.5 stars rounded to 4 based on conventions, and the fact I decided to keep it. I'm not sure the outcome would have been the same if I had purchased or found this elsewhere- there are just too many oddities in the layout as mentioned. Since things worked out like so, I do see myself making use of this book and it wearing out and becoming well-loved. It's a bit bulky being 700-800 pages, so it will likely stay in one designated spot as I believe it's designed. Good idea and a good first copy that could benefit from some revisions/improvements. I commend the effort to make something new that is not on the market yet and believe they will come out with many improved versions. I wanted to let other people interested in this know exactly what they are getting before purchase.

Words do have colors!

This is one of my most favorite books ever!
It is a coming of age novel of a young girl in the Dom. Republic.
Through poetry at the begining of each chapter the mood is sucsesfully set, telling of a girl who lives in poverty and the restrictions of the government. When she tries with the help of her family to resist them trying to take her property, she is struck by tragedy.
This is a beautiful, moving book that might cause a few tears. I cannot say enough about it.
I'm sure it will inspire others like it inspired me!

The most unique and informational video game book on the market today!

I am highly impressed at the amount of research that was done on the various topics, as well as the editing and compiling done by Kowert and Quandt. Important questions are asked, such as is there a scientific link between violence and video games? The media usually will tell you "yes" every time a news story is aired where a violent crime is attempted to be linked to a video game. What about obesity and video games? Or does using exercise games like Wii Fit actually have health benefits? As a parent of two boys, all of these questions that are asked are important to both me and my family.

The book itself is a very easy read, I only had trouble with some of the Psychological exam terms that were presented. It reads similar to a series of white papers that are written on various topics. Overall, if you have interest in the topic at all, you can breeze through it in about 2-3 days. It comes in just over 200 pages, but that includes all charts, graphs, and reference pages. Overall, this book should not be missed as the information provided is invaluable to find all in one place, and their seems to be no bias on the topics at all. I truly cannot think of any book that comes anywhere close to the Video Game Debate.

A must have for anyone interested in video games (yes I mean ANYONE!)

As a game design researcher, I was quite curious about this volume. Well...I read the entire volume in one sitting! Most of the texts about video games either focus on game development, game design, game production or game studies theories, I was glad to finally see a book that details the research in various areas. With this volume Kowert and Quandt have created a wonderful edited compilation, in it they provide a substantive yet easily to digest summary of hot topics such as aggression, learning, addiction, gaming communities and others. I also appreciated the balanced approach to video games which they summarize in Chapter 10. The effects of video games are not black and white-either for positive advancement of human life (such as learning) or for moral deterioration (such as aggression in play). Video games are here to stay, and as media influences all aspects of human life it requires continued exploration, research and critique. This is a great read for anyone interested in video games, and it is of particular interest to game studies students and researchers. I believe this volume should be mandatory in all university courses in communication, production and design of media.

Must read for media, great read for serious enthusiasts

I really have found this book to be quite informative. It’s not for everyone though. It’s a difficult read, and my personal notes look more like my college notes than light reading, but its practical applications for gamers and games writers makes the book even more useful. I can’t imagine not citing this book in the coming years, and I’m hoping word will spread among fans and media alike to ensure others do the same. As gamers, we all know how behind mass media is in terms of the image of games, but after reading this book, I’ve realized even we gamers are a bit behind as well, as most academics simply don’t make their findings accessible. This book is the first big step toward changing that.

"Chestnut's Obstetric Anesthesia: Principles and Practice" is truly the definitive textbook of Obstetrical Anesthesiology. It is exceedingly well-written, well-illustrated, and well-organized. Dr. David H. Chestnut, Dr. Cynthia A. Wong, Dr. Lawrence C. Tsen, Dr. Warwick D. Ngan Kee, Dr. Yaakov Beilin, Dr. Jill M. Mhyre, and Dr. Naveen Nathan have collaborated to write an absolutely masterful and authoritative textbook on the care and management of pregnant women and their infants. "Chestnut's Obstetric Anesthesia: Principles and Practice" is one of the best medical textbooks ever written, and it certainly deserves to occupy a prominent position in the personal library of every practicing anesthesiologist, obstetrician, and neonatologist. I enthusiastically give it my very highest recommendation!
