James Keller holds the University of Missouri Curators' Professorship in the Electrical and Computer Engineering and Computer Science Departments on the Columbia Campus, and is the R.L. Tatum Professor in the College of Engineering. Dr. Keller is a Life Fellow of the IEEE, a Fellow of the International Fuzzy Systems Association, and a former president of the North American Fuzzy Information Processing Society.

Derong Liu is a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois at Chicago, USA, and a Professor of Automation and Electrical Engineering at the University of Science and Technology Beijing, China. Dr. Liu is a Fellow of the IEEE and a Fellow of the International Neural Network Society. He has published 17 books, including Reinforcement Learning and Approximate Dynamic Programming for Feedback Control (2012, Wiley-IEEE Press). He is the Editor-in-Chief of Artificial Intelligence Review, and he served as the Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems (2010-2015).

David Fogel is the President of Natural Selection, Inc., CEO of Natural Selection Financial, Inc., a Fellow of the IEEE, and the series editor for the Wiley-IEEE Press Series on Computational Intelligence. Dr. Fogel has 30 years of experience pioneering contributions in the field of computational intelligence, and is co-inventor of the EffectCheck� sentiment analysis system. A GREAT book! It's educational and motivational

A GREAT book! It's educational and motivational. There's a lot of information but it's presented in such a way that it's an enjoyable read and doesn't seem overwhelming. It's a MUST READ to fully understand how the body works and why it's so important that we eat right and exercise. But it's NOT a diet book at all. It's a "way of life" book. I immediately bought one for my daughter after I finished reading it. If you're a woman, you'll love this book. I'm just an ordinary 40 something woman, so I'm not affiliated in any way with this book. I just was impressed with it and think it's a fantastic read and makes for a good gift also!

A good book but missing the thing that makes you not want to put a book down

I am a fan of Cameron Diaz and her work on screen. It is very clear that she is well disciplined in the area of her health and fitness. I am always interested in new information on the topic of health and the science behind eating right as it motivates me to do so. Maybe I have read too many books on the subject but I would have probably enjoyed this book more is it was one of the first that I had read. Not much of a new spin on the topic if you are well versed. I did enjoy it but found it more difficult to stay interested in than I had hoped.

This book is easy to read, I'll tell you i felt like i was talking to Cameron. Here's the kicker this book is not just a diet or exercise book this book explains why we should do what is recommended and explains how the body reacts to these changes.I have recommended it to my friends even bought one for my sister!

Helped me with Layers big time

This book is really for beginners and people who aren't really planning on ever getting too involved in photoshop, which is why it was the perfect book for me. It gave me a good sense of what I needed to know as far as basic photo editing without getting into the really intense stuff. Starts off by familiarizing you with the interface of Elements and branches into the specific sections from there. That was really crucial because I really needed to know what everything was and where it was. Figuring out the rest was pretty simple on my own.

The really confusing part that took up hours of my time before reading the book was layers. I had to scrap so many projects simply because I didn't know I'd been creating so many layers and those were the reason my photos were getting screwed up. Needless to say, I've got a much better grasp on layers now.

Horrible Book! NOT FOR DUMMIES

I am writing this review objectively as I have never used Photoshop, and Elements 10 is my first version. First off, this is by far the worst "For Dummies" book that I have ever purchased and it may even cause me to stop purchasing any more in the future. The book is very poorly put together. All over the place there are references to a particular issue and the answer is "That will be discussed in more detail later in Chapter XX". Also, there are many commands that are not explained well at all. For instance, it instructs the user to click the (insert command here) icon, yet it does not show an illustration of the icon, nor does it describe it. Remember, I m a first time user, so I have no idea what these icons look like. The section of the book that deals with organizing photos is 58 pages, while the section that deals with layers is only 25. Even after reading the chapter on layers I still had to research it online because I didn't get any insight from this book. There are very few illustrations, and the ones that are there are very uninformative and serve no purpose.
After reading this book I now know just about as much about Photoshop Elements 10 as I did before I started.... Nothing. So far I have learned a great deal of ideas online. There are a ton of resources that are far better than this book.

Please, save your money and DO NOT BUY this book.

Added comment 01-28-12. I just read another book "How to Cheat in Photoshop Elements 10". I learned more useful information from the first few chapters of this book than from the entire dummies book. I now know that I made the right choice by giving Photoshop 10 for dummies only one star. I wish I could give it NO stars!

Nice Guide For Photoshop Elements Beginners

I don't have much experience with Photoshop Elements 11 or really any Photoshop product for that matter and I needed a guidebook to get me going. My go to technical manual is usually one of the more comprehensive, although sometimes less user-friendly, guides (think The Missing Manual series). These guides pack absolutely everything you could possibly want to know about a given product into their pages, but since I barely qualify as a beginner here I took a different approach and picked up two MUCH more user friendly books (this one and Teach Yourself VISUALLY Photoshop Elements 11 (Teach Yourself VISUALLY (Tech))) and I couldn't be happier with my choices.

I won't compare them fully here (I've reviewed the Teach Yourself Visually book on its own page) except to say that the main way they differ is in the graphics that accompany the step-by-step guides and the amount of commentary between guides. This book has much more text between guides that goes into why you might use tools and special tips for using them in different situations. The teach yourself visually guide has very little commentary, but makes up for it by providing fully labeled pictures with each of its guides that SHOW you exactly which buttons to press. That said the two books really balance each other out making a great pair. If you're a true beginner or are just feeling a little intimidated I'd recommend getting both.

But lets look specifically at this book

Photoshop Elements 11 for Dummies is broken down into 6 parts. Although you could use it as a strict reference, these parts are laid out in a way suggesting that they be read in order as sometimes topics in late chapters refer to things you would have picked up in earlier chapters. The six parts are:

1) Organizing and Editing Images - Before you edit your photos in PSE you have to get them into the program. This section is incredibly helpful with that covering not only importing digital images, but also scanning in photos. This section also introduces you to the work areas of PSE and defines many of the icons. It's nice to have this all up front giving you bearings so the following chapters are easier to understand.
2) Managing Media - I don't know why some of the topics here weren't just covered in section one. Creating albums would to me fall under organization, but its not a big deal.
3) Selecting and Correcting Photos - This section is the "meat" of the guide and probably the real reason you bought it. It covers the majority of ways you can manipulate an image including step by step guides, before and after examples, and lots of tips to speed up your work flow and get the most out of each tool
4) Exploring Your Inner Artist - Beyond editing your images to fix imperfections, there are a lot of "artistic" corrections you can make like adding filters or integrating text into an image. If you're a strict photographer you may not use these as much, but if you want to make your images into posters or greeting cards or just give images a certain feel with a filter you'll spend a lot of time on this section.
5) Printing, Creating, and Sharing - I thought this was interesting, while I don't print many images, I didn't know about the additional printing options that come with Photoshop Elements things like adding boarders, labels, printing proofs etc.
6) Part of Tens - I have never understood the purpose of this section in a dummies book. It always feels like a bit of filler to me. This gives ten ideas for projects and ten tips for composing your pictures. They don't seem like revolutionary tips or ideas and could probably have been included somewhere else in the book. It doesn't detract from the rest of the book, but I could live without it.

Overall the content in the book is well laid out and described, but might be a little on the light side for more advanced users. On the bright side if you like the layout of this book and the author's writing style it looks like she has a similar dummies book that's a little denser (Photoshop Elements 11 All-in-One For Dummies).

Beyond the content organization the layout of the book and it makes it easier to use. If you've read a dummies book before you'll know what I'm talking about. The book defines a set of icons that point out things that you should really remember, things that are especially important because they could damage something if you do the wrong, things that are extra technical and can be skipped over, etc. I like having these icons for two reasons one they do direct you to the kind of information you're looking for and two they act as mini guide-posts throughout the book which make finding your way back easier. A few times I knew there was a small topic I wanted to revisit. I could remember that it was marked with a quick tip icon, but couldn't remember the exact page number. With the icons I could easily flip back and find it.

Final Thoughts: I really enjoyed this guide and thought it shortened my learning curve substantially. It has the content that I needed and a good bit of commentary to string it all together. As a more visual learner I did think that it could have been improved with more action screenshots to show, but with Teach Yourself VISUALLY Photoshop Elements 11 (Teach Yourself VISUALLY (Tech)) as a companion book this wasn't problematic at all.

Looseleaf!

I ordered this knowing that this was a looseleaf textbook.
It was all great until I actually put it in a binder. I kept ripping the pages out.

THEN, I found out you can spiral bind textbooks (up to 3 inches) over at Office Depot.

I went ahead and called to double check and they did!
I spiral bound 2 textbooks for 7.50 (with Nevada state tax)

Easy to Read. Adequately Detailed For An Intro To World Religions Course. Almost Exactly the Same As Previous Version.

This book explains the religions that it covers well enough. You will learn plenty by reading it. There are some places where the author inputs his own political ideology, which is why it only gets 3 stars. If you can overlook that then it's written well and you will have no trouble understanding it. He's also into name dropping the names of dead psychologists, philosophers and artists. Why? I have no idea. Picasso's opinion of African masks has next to nothing to do with the topic of the religion.
This is a loose leaf book. A note: There's almost no difference between this book and the one that came before it. The main difference was the images. I bought this and compared it to a scan of the previous edition that I found online and I was unable to find any significant differences. That said, I manage to get this pretty cheap when Amazon lowered the price for one day, and I sold it back to the university bookstore for 80% of what I paid for it. Needless to say, I was satisfied with that arrangement. Apparently the bookstores don't always buy these loose leaf books. Amazon did not offer me anything for it. I ended up not even needing it.

False Advertisment: NOT readable on any Android Devise. even though i installed the Amazon Kindle app on my Note 2, which is a tablet format, i CANNOT download this textbook to my devise. it will recognise my PC Kindle app, but not the Note 2/Tablet. so basically the "Compatible Devises" claim is false advertisement. imagine my dissapointment when i realized that i will NOT be able to access the convenience of reading my homework assignments while on the go, & that i'll have to pay much more for even a rental than i could have by being able to read it on Kindle, on my Android Note 2!!! & to think, i thought i would be getting all my textbooks from Amazons eBooks in the future - i guess that's just money they'll never make from me...their loss...

A must have for people new to BDSM

I am so glad that I took the time to read this book before I began my journey into the BDSM world. I learned so many great things from it. The book is set up to make sure you get the most from it and gives clear and descriptive instructions on how to make the relationship work the best it can. Simple little things that I would not have thought of are explained with their uses and benefits very well illustrated. I would not have thought to have a contract or two different collars with one for training and one for the actual relationship.
The book covers every part of training necessary to ensure that your relationship is successful. I really enjoyed how well the need for trust and education was explained. It's not enough to just jump into a BDSM relationship. To be the best experience for you both, it is necessary to have a well thought out plan in place. Each of the different areas that you will find yourself in, are well documented and explained in each of the easy to read chapters. I am really looking forward to continuing my exploration of this exciting area now that I have read this book.

The book is well written and the step by step plan is laid out for you, all you have to do is follow the process. The training is broken down into sections based on the progression of your training ensuring success.

It is a good starter book

It is a good starter book. It is important to remember every couple is different. Every form of training is different. Take the ideas in the book as an outline. Not every Dom wants dick worship. Some Doms love the chanlenge of a Brat.
